At Yardzen, we believe people are at their best when they’re outside.
We have a simple promise: help people envision the outdoor spaces of their dreams, all online, and then match them with the right local contractors to bring their design to life. Since our launch in 2018, we’ve helped thousands of homeowners achieve their dream yards, make environmentally responsible decisions, boost their property values and get more out of their outdoor spaces.
We are disrupting the $200 billion outdoor renovation industry. By leveraging technology and creating an innovative online process, we offer a more straightforward, transparent, and delightful design and build experience for the modern homeowner. We’ve been recognized as a Forbes Best Startup Employer, Fast Company Most Innovative Company, named to Inc. Magazine’s Best Places to Work, and written about by Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Sunset Magazine, House Beautiful, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. And we’re just getting started.
We’re seeking a dynamic, wildly creative, versatile Graphic Designer to join our world-class marketing team. The ideal candidate turns out concepts with lightning speed, produces crisp copy when needed, and is a valued cross-functional partner with other teams.
Note that we’re looking for someone with significant experience in graphic design as well as production design. It’s an end-to-end role that offers the right candidate ample opportunity to create and produce creative that connects with key audiences and drives business results.

As our Graphic Designer, you’ll:

  • Create high-quality and engaging content, leveraging Yardzen brand guidelines and style guides.
  • Work on diverse projects ranging from social media content and ads, emails, direct response campaigns, blog posts, pitch decks, marketing collateral, performance-focused landing pages, print pieces, and other creative placements you inspire. If it’s an extension of the Yardzen brand, you’ll touch it.
  • Ensure everything you deliver and contribute to drives our desired business outcomes.
  • Manage and prioritize the workload of producing multiple projects from concept to completion – if you’ve been part of a startup before, you know the drill.
  • Ability to both design creative assets as well as bring them to life. For example, stand up a landing page in WordPress or help post on Instagram.
  • Take and run with creative briefs, highlighting Yardzen’s unique brand voice and aesthetic across various deliverables.
  • Most importantly, flex into creative marketing tasks beyond a traditional production designer role. We’re looking for a designer who considers themselves a marketing generalist and energized by a broad scope.

Non-negotiables:

  • At least 5+ years of experience in graphic and production design with an excellent understanding of layout, typography, color, photography, and other fundamental design principles (in-house experience preferred).
  • Strong writing skills are a must. We’re an organization that values exceptional copy.
  • Strong video creation and editing skills are a close second to writing skills.
  • Robust understanding of digital-first, direct-response best practices.
  • Expert knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with WordPress.
  • An impressive portfolio that showcases your conceptual thinking, execution skills, detailed systems, and brand standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to quickly scope and deliver creative assets that drive results (clicks, leads, purchase conversions, etc.)
  • Ability to receive and respond to creative feedback that may involve quick pivots.

Nice-to-have experiences:

  • Social media post and ad design
  • Photo shoot planning and execution
  • Light copywriting
  • Both B2C and B2B
  • Product marketing

More non-negotiables (for everyone at Yardzen):

  • You believe in the benefits of outdoor living.
  • You appreciate beautiful spaces and good design.
  • You have startup experience and thrive under pressure and with ambiguity.
  • You embrace change and lead with a growth mindset.
  • You’re a real teammate and would be described by those who know you as a genuinely kind person. Culture is critical in the early days and we’re looking for goodness and grit.

Benefits & Perks

  • Equity in Yardzen
  • Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • Health & wellness stipend
  • Cell phone and internet stipend
  • Home office stipend
At Yardzen, we’re committed to creating a space where our employees can bring their full selves to work and have equal opportunities to succeed. We are looking for people that will add to our culture, not just fit in. So regardless of race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, origin, ability, age, or veteran status, if joining this mission speaks to you, we encourage you to apply!
Since April 2020, we're a remote-first organization. We believe work is a thing you do, not a place you go, and we can stay connected as an organization from anywhere. We believe that clearly defined goals combined with awesome people, authentic empowerment, and autonomy create the best results.
