Director of IT - Cosmos (Infinity Constellation)

About Cosmos
Cosmos is a new Infinity Constellation venture building a modern managed IT provider for mid-market companies. We combine expert humans with automation to deliver faster resolution, stronger security, and measurable business outcomes.

Role overview
You will be Cosmos’s first Director of IT. You will design and run our service delivery engine end to end: standards, tools, security, incident response, client architecture blueprints, and the people and processes that make it all work. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will set strategy and budgets, and you will also build golden images, resolve priority incidents, and stand up automations that eliminate recurring tickets.

Responsibilities

Service delivery and standards

  • Define reference architectures for Windows, macOS, identity, endpoint security, and network across SMB and mid-market tiers.

  • Establish gold standards for onboarding, offboarding, device lifecycle, and least-privilege access.

  • Create SLAs, SLOs, escalation ladders, and problem management practices. Publish operational dashboards for internal use and client visibility.

  • Stand up change management and release cadences that balance speed, safety, and client commitments.

Tooling and automation

  • Select, implement, and operate PSA and RMM platforms. Stand up MDM, IdP, EDR, patch, backup, logging, and secrets management.

  • Build an automation backlog that reduces ticket volume and mean time to resolution. Ship runbooks and bots that eliminate entire ticket categories.

  • Implement zero-touch provisioning, software distribution, and policy as code for client baselines.

Security and compliance

  • Own identity, endpoint, email, and network security controls for Cosmos and managed clients.

  • Lead SOC 2 readiness and evidence collection. Map controls for HIPAA, PCI, and NIST CSF as client mix requires.

  • Build and maintain incident response playbooks, conduct tabletop exercises, and tune detections to reduce alert fatigue.

People and partners

  • Recruit, coach, and performance manage Service Desk L1-L3, Systems Engineers, and Project Engineers as the business scales.

  • Design a vendor strategy that balances quality, redundancy, and cost. Negotiate partner tiers and committed-use agreements.

  • Build a blameless, data-driven culture focused on root-cause elimination rather than one-off heroics.

Budget and governance

  • Own the IT budget for tooling, headcount, training, and vendor contracts. Track unit economics at the per-seat level.

  • Run a change advisory cadence, and publish a service roadmap to clients and Cosmos leadership.

Qualifications

Must have

  • 8 to 12 years in IT operations

  • Proven experience implementing compliance programs and converting control sets into running systems with evidence.

  • Hands-on strength in at least two of the following: macOS fleet management, Windows endpoint engineering, identity lifecycle, email security and phishing defense.

  • Fluency with KPI design and operational cadence. A bias to standardize and automate repeated work.

Nice to have

  • SOC or NOC design, SIEM tuning, and basic detection engineering.

  • A track record of reducing cost to serve through automation and vendor consolidation.

  • Experience supporting regulated customers in healthcare, financial services, or government contracting.

  • Demonstrated ownership of PSA and RMM ecosystems, MDM at scale, and identity-first architectures.

  • Experience leading teams in an MSP or multi-tenant environment.
